Sydney is Home
"We all fall in love will her a little bit more every day" Juanita says. She also said "I have to confess the first night at home with her was a nightmare, I have a new found respect for mothers.
The first night no-one got any sleep. We had spoken to Natalie and she had warned us about the baby blues and that first night in the house at about 2am it kicked in and Melissa felt completely helpless because we couldn't do anything right, Sydney just kept crying. Richard was beside himself, usually Melissa can handle anything and to see her in this state was tearing him up inside. If you can imagine the three of us at 4am sitting in the living room, Melissa crying, me trying to settle Syd and Richard furiously flicking through all the baby books to figure out what to do. In hindsight all we had to do was give her a small bottle of formula to settle Sydney down so that she could get some sleep, but Melissa thought that it might interfere with breastfeeding and would add to her feeling like a failure."
"3 days later and you cant believe the change. Melissa's milk has come in so Syd is eating and pooping like a champion. She sleeps most of the day and night now and when she sleeps, Melissa sleeps and everyone is happy. We went to see the doctor yesterday and our only concern now is Sydney has lost about 10% of her birth weight, which the doctor says is quite normal. And we are talking heading down to the states for a couple of days next week to visit Richard's sister, so things are back on track." Juanita said.
We are all glad that things are settling down for the new family - as Darren and I say there is light at the end of that tunnel, you just cant see it yet - But it is there!
Missing everyone and shame we cannot be there to cuddle baby Sydney. See you when you come to Sydney with her soon.
