Nationals B Finals

MLC were up early to compete in their B Finals at Nationals today. The crew met under their tent at 7.10 am call time where my daughter had to weigh in 2 hours prior to race at 9.10 am.
The girls did well finishing 3rd in their race, with the crew putting in all they had. The cox told me she pushed them so hard at the end of their race she had three out four of the crew crying for the pain she pushed them to. Daisy had medical staff attending her both in and out of the boat for her knee injury, ice was applied and hopefully she will be OK for the final race for the season being in two weeks time at the School Girls Head of River at SIRC on the 29th March 2008.

2008 Australian Rowing Championships

MLC have been practising/competing at The Australian Rowing Championships that is being held at Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) Penrith Lakes from Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th March 08.
The Nationals consist of 89 Events, 1227 Crews, 1789 Competitors, 289 Coxswains, 297 Coaches, 596 Races, 1 Time Trial, so are extremely excited that my daughter's crew made it to the Semi-Finals. The girls raced well today finishing 6th at 7:53.27 sending them into the B Finals. Good Luck in the finals!

100 year Centennial Game for Souths

Thanks Sue for letting us know about Jacinta, who is fortunate to be dancing at the 100 year centennial game for Souths against Roosters.

She has already danced at the Charity Shield last week (though they didn't do much) but with the Roosters game there are 1000 dancers and the drummers.

So if you are watching keep an eye out.

Unfortunately she is dancing for Souths, but then again we do live in the area so I guess it can't be helped.

We are all very excited for Jacinta and will be watching the game but mostly Jacinta.

Tropfest Winner visits TAFE

Michelle Lehman gave up her time today to spend lunch-time speaking with the students from the Digital Media group.
The talk started with showing her winning short film "Marry Me" followed by valuable information of the stages of creation.
Michelle was straight forward with letting the students know "the idea is KING!" and the importance of story-boarding and essential planning with every detail. Later Michelle answered all questions from music composer for her film to editing. She was so impressive Peter Green invited Michelle to talk to the Diploma students where she helped the students with ideas of how to tackle their big film/video assignment. With hints and sketches on the board of how to organise your story-boards with Directors notes, scene notes, costume details and order of scene shooting.
I would like to thank Michelle very much for taking this busy time out to spend with our students and words of encouragement that when things get tough just keep going, some day it will pay off.

Sydney is Number 1

According to Lisa Carty's article in the Sydney Morning Herald on 2nd March.

IGGSA Regatta

Sunday and another Regatta. This time it was back to SIRC for the second time this weekend with the girls competing against other girls schools.
Dillon's crew came fifth in the first race of the day followed by Kate's crew in sixth in the next race. But the medal winning started with Maddie T-Menzies coming home in second place in her Junior Scull. Emma Stewart placing a third in her Senior Scull. Anthy Quail and Tink Thompson both did MLC proud coming first in their Double Scull and Senior Quad Scull coming in on one of the last races of the day in third place.
Thanks to Justine Baloh who stood in for her injured sister Juliette to help the Senior crew past the finish line in third.
Overall it was a great day with a lot of very happy and proud parents coming to support and watch their daughter achieve their successes. Well Done MLC!
The MLC newsletter also said
"After a successful PLC/Kings regatta, with a win and many places, the MLC Rowing squad once again headed out to the world class rowing course at Penrith. The annual IGSSA Regatta is a regatta that all look forward to, as it provides strong schoolgirl competition, with some indication of the crews that will be racing at Head of the River. Success started off early with a second placing in the Junior Scull by Maddie T-Menzies, followed then by a bronze by Emma Stewart in the Senior Scull. Much like the day previously, there were many placing’s by girls in the squad. Success finally came in the Yr10 Double Scull, with a win by Anthea Quail and Catherine Thompson, narrowly holding on to the first place for the whole race, showing immense strength and stamina. Due to an injury, the Senior squad’s boat had a substitute in bow – Yr9 Justine Baloh. After already having raced a 1000m race, Justine stepped up to replace her older sister in the 2000m Senior Coxed Quad Scull, showing an impressive performance against girls up to four years older than her. Her great performance managed to get the crew across the line in third position, earning them a bronze.
With the end of the season in sight, the senior crew will be competing at Nationals this week, and with only one more race before Head of the River for the Junior crews, performances over this season have steadily improved to show that placing and medals will be hotly contested by all crews in the squad.

Head of the River will be held on Saturday, 29 March, and as the final race of their school girl careers for four Yr 12 rowers, support is much appreciated.

PLC-Kings Regatta

It was an early chilly start to Autumn, with Dillon having to be at Penrith at 6.30 a.m. The day started off with crews unloading and rigging their boats ready for a day of medal hunting.
Dillon's crew was first race of the day at 8 a.m. and finishing in Division 1 in 6 position, while Kate MacKay's crew came a happy second in Division 4. well Done to all the girls.
