Roger Hospitalised - 1st August 2008
This morning I received a text from Roger's mum to inform me that Roger had admitted himself to hospital yesterday about 2pm with stomach cramps. He was diagnosed by doctors in Emergency with Acute Appendicitis and was moved to a ward to await an operation schedule for today, as soon as I heard I went to visit him to make sure he was OK as he parent unfortunately had to attend a funeral of one of their friends plus an eye appointment as Roger's dad had an operation on his eye on Wednesday (a stressful day for Roger's parents).
When I arrived about 12 noon, Roger's was getting another drip put into his right arm as his left arm drip had clotted up - blah (anyone that knows me knows I cannot stand the site of needles or blood or anything to do hospitals), this was painful for Roger as the drip did not settle down and kept hurting but Roger did not want any help for it as he knew they would stick another one in somewhere else. Yuk. Roger was in pain from his Appendices as well as the drip and the thought of food (he had not eaten for two days) but I kept his mind off it by keeping him talking and telling stories (not funny ones cause it hurt to laugh). I asked when he was under could they change his drip into a better place that was less painful for Roger, they said they would.
By about 2pm they took him to theatre and I walk him to the door and wished him well then informed his parents that Roger was being operated on. Roger was returned to the ward about 4pm by the bed pushing people and they just left him - I could not believe it as Roger was awake and in extreme pain but could not communicate properly as his throat was so dry and coarse from the tubes from operation. Away I was there and organised morphine, gave him water and generally made him more comfortable. Before the morphine the nurse wanted to check his wound and when she moved the underpants to check she let them go and stung him right on the wound - poor Roger was in so much pain. The morphine took about 20 mins to organise and then the nurse just jabbed him without much warning in his thigh - I though Roger was going to have a cardiac arrest - his was in so much pain he went into a bit of shock, he was shaking and teeth chattering but the nurse just walked away and said the morphine will work in about half an hour. After some time I soon had Roger settled and nodding off when his parents came - very big day for them and Roger, I soon left them so they could catch up and care for their son.
Roger has a couple of days in the ward then bed rest/ no work for two weeks, I wish Roger as speedy recovery as I know how bored he will get - could be a good time to edit some Tassi Shots.
Of course I could not stay with him and not take photos of his ordeal - some photos are pre-operation and other when he was returned from theatre.
